at Kripalu Institute)

Richard Spearance has been studying and practicing multidisciplinary yoga for over 15 years, and has been teaching since he received his 200-hour certification from the Kripalu Institute on May 30, 2004.  Richard is a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association (KYTA) and the Yoga Alliance (E-RYT200). Richard recently received his 500-hour Master Yoga Teacher certification from Discovery Yoga of St. Augustine, FL and his RYT500 designation from Yoga Alliance.

Richard's yoga experience began in the Iyengar tradition, studying for several years with such notable instructors as Judy Rice of Louisville, KY, Michele Franey of Somers Point, NJ and Joan White of Philadelphia, PA.  Richard lovingly considers Judy and Michele to be two of his primary gurus, teaching him the importance of alignment, discipline, self-confidence, student safety and, most importantly, loving-kindness.

Richard has studied with many other inspirational instructors, including Christopher Baxter, Martha Abbot, Ed Harrold, Amy Stephanik, Shiva Rea, Doug Swenson, Laurie Greene, Jill Miller and many others over the years.  This is in addition to teaching classes in a number of great studios, including Comfort Zone Yoga and YogaNine in southern New Jersey.

You will find Richard's classes to be a fun and eclectic mix of yoga (poses and flow), pranayama (breathing) and meditation (mind-training) techniques derived from his varied experiences.  His classes are always tailored to the needs of the students, offering special challenges for more advanced students while also offering compassionate modifications for those with less experience or with special physical needs.
